The I-WEST seminar series hosts thought leaders on a spectrum of topics tied to transitioning the Intermountain West to carbon neutrality, including technologies, policy, workforce, and environmental justice.
Seminar Summary
Emerging changes in climate realties and how energy is generated, produced, and used will significantly impact how we use, supply, and manage water by the end of this decade. This presentation will explore how nontraditional water and energy resources will drive innovation in how we manage natural resources to support sustainable and resilient economic development.
Speaker Summary
Mike Hightower is Program Director of the New Mexico Produced Water Research Consortium, a joint effort by the NM Environment Department and New Mexico State University. Mike is retired from Sandia National Laboratories where he worked for 38 years in the areas of aerospace, weapons, energy, and natural resources research, analysis, and engineering. For the past three decades he has focused on the development of innovative distributed energy and water treatment and desalination technologies to improve critical infrastructure and natural resource security, resiliency, and sustainability. Mike holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil and environmental engineering from New Mexico State University.
